My Updates
The bike leaves in 8 days!
The bike goes to Sydney 8 days from now, so this is it. Since November I've trained really hard, feeling fitter each week than the one before. I will be on the start line, and this year will be needing rather than providing help and encouragement up hills. This challenge is something I've chosen; for the kids and families we support through fundraising there has been no choice. Every donation, big or small, helps provide life-sustaining respiratory support for kids. Thank you for being part of the journey. Share
This time it's different
I've signed up for the 2026 ride with some trepidation. Many of you know I had a serious bike accident in July and broke a lot of bones, spending 10 days on the Alfred Hospital trauma ward. I have been the recipient of amazing health care, acutely and in rehab. It has been a long journey since July. Would I be able to get back on a bike again? How much will the ongoing complications get in the way? Will I be too scared to ride again? Can I get strong and fit enough by March?
Chain Reaction 2026 has new significance for me. The objective of raising money to improve what Monash Children's can do for kids is compelling. Plus, getting back on the bike with the shared objective of fundraising for great causes and overcoming physical challenge will test and push me psychologically and physically.
My aim is to get to the start line in Sydney in March and we'll see what happens after that. To get there, I have an enormous amount of training to do.
You can support the journey by looking at this blog from time to time, follow more closely on Strava, and consider making a docation to the cause. Thank you!
