Help me support kids in need

Hello! I'm excited to share with you the incredible work of Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation. For the past 17 years, they’ve been raising funds to support children's charities through corporate cycling challenges. Through their efforts, they’ve already helped over 60 children's charities and raised an impressive $40 million to support kids in need.

Over just 7 days, I'll pedal 1,000 kilometres as part of the 2024 Melbourne Chain Reaction Challenge. Our mission is to raise funds for two incredible children’s charities – the Gait Lab at Monash Children’s Hospital and Starlight Children’s Foundation. My personal fundraising goal is $6000.

The Gait Lab at Monash Children’s Hospital is a cutting-edge facility, striving to enhance the mobility and independence of infants, children, and adolescents facing neurological, muscular, developmental or orthopedic challenges hindering lower limb function. Funding is needed to facilitate an upgrade of equipment to provide the best possible diagnosis and treatment for their patients and facilitate more appointments and shorter wait times for children and their families.

Starlight Children's Foundation focuses on the emotional well-being of seriously ill kids. The funds raised will enhance health and happiness through the Starlight Express Room and Captain Starlight Programs, countering the disruptions of illness on their lives.

By supporting me in this challenge, you'll be helping us make a real difference in the lives of these children. Please donate to my fundraising page above.

Many thanks,

Rob Roseby

My Updates

The last week

Well that's the training (almost) done! I meet the group once more at 0600 in Albert Park tomorrow, but instead of riding back with them from Black Rock I will head in to work to prepare for my CF clinic. Our last big training ride was titled "more cows than cars", where coach Brenton Jones took us on the roads in West Gippsland where he spent his teen years training, eventually to become a pro cyclist. He was so enthusiastic about showing us his favorite hills and roads, and we were enthusiastic students.
In the last week I have had my bike serviced, brought out my new shoes, packed my bag, and had a cardiopulmonary exercise test (to confirm what Strava tells me about my fitness.) The only thing left to do is pack the bike, get to the airport and stay healthy!
I'm doing this motivated not just by the riding, but by knowing I am doing this on behalf of those who are supporting the fundraising effort so generously. Together we are doing something really meaningful for kids. Thank you for your contribution.

2 weeks to go

I leave Melbourne in 2 weeks' time so it feels very real now. We've got the final course maps, and find a total of 1050km for the week, with more than 2000m of climbing each day! Wow!

My training is coming along. Last year I did four weeks of 500km, this year six. For the last week or so I've been dealing with some ITB pain, the treatment for which is generally rest which is not going to happen, so it's anti-inflammatories plus specific exercises. Seems to be manageable. I dropped down to 400km last week and this, and aim for another 500km week starting Monday if my legs can take it, before a final week taper.

I am really grateful to those who have donated already, and those who say they will! Despite the total being a long way from the target at this point I am confident we can get there. The gait lab is such a meaningful recipient- kids with neuromuscular and developmental issues are rarely the subject for fundraising, and I'm so happy they have their opportunity through this event. Thank you for your support.

25 days to go

With less than 4 weeks to go I am even more focused on the chain reaction ride than ever! I have just completed my sixth week of 500+km, including a very wet and cold 135km Kinglake training ride yesterday (20'24" for those who know the climb- quite a neat time considering the year!).

I'm hoping friends and supporters can help get behind these great causes. I've just visited a rehabilitation and gait lab team meeting. These awesome colleagues work so hard to help kids whose neurological/ muscular/ orthopaedic/ developmental issues are not often in the public eye and dont always attract the attention they deserve. I'm so happy to support my colleagues in their amazing efforts.
