2021 Chain Reaction - please help me support Kids in need
I hope you are keeping well.
As some of you might know, for the past few years I have been involved with Chain Reaction, a foundation that runs challenging corporate cycling events focused on raising funds and awareness to support children’s charities. For this year’s Victorian event, we will again be supporting two fantastic organisations that do amazing work for sick kids, Starlight and Very Special Kids. I am aiming to raise $10,000 over the next four weeks.
For me, what started as a 'once-off' three years' has turned in to a bit of annual passion project. I really enjoy the training and preparation in the months that proceed the 1000km, 7 day event and the social aspects that go hand in hand with spending so much time on the bike! It has become part of my schedule and I feel incredibly lucky to be able to participate. I am grateful for the support from my wife Sarah and kids Freddy and Lily for all the time I spend away from them at early morning or at weekend training.
However, beyond above, there is an even more important motivating factor - helping to contribute in a small way to ensure the organisations we support are sufficiently funded to do the important work that they do. I will not go in to too much detail here on Starlight or Very Special Kids aside from saying that their work is critically important and the people that work within them are amazing.
Every year the stories we hear from these organisations and the people they help are incredibly moving. In fact, without fail each charity briefing event we attend results in similar scene; groups of mainly middle-aged ‘weekend warrior’ type cyclists – myself included - donned in not so flattering lyrca after a training ride sobbing at the stories we hear from families who have endured unthinkable hardships.
For me, this results in a similar conclusion. A realisation that my situation is a lucky one and if I can support by participating in a challenging event and donating some funds and asking the same of my family and friends then that is what I’ll continue to try and do.
Finally, I appreciate this past 12 months has been particularly challenging for many for obvious reasons. If you can help, I’d be most grateful – the need for these organisations and the work they do doesn’t stop despite a pandemic.
If you wish to learn more, please do not hesitate to reach out to me direct. The big blue button above will prompt you through the process to donate to me. I am also more than happy to discuss Starlight, Very Special Kids or the Chain Reaction Foundation directly if you wish to learn more about how you can contribute.
Thanks for taking the time to read and for your support.
