Help me support kids in need
I’m excited to be getting back on the bike in partnership with Chain Reaction to shine a spotlight and raise funds for two impactful charity organisations that help vulnerable children – So They Can and BaptistCare HopeStreet.
This will be my first ride with Chain Reaction, which will be 1,000KM in 7 days through Victoria, Australia. By participating I am hoping to make a small difference to those children who through the luck of birth or unsafe family environments need a helping hand to break the cycle they are in.
In Australia and New Zealand, we are blessed with a high-quality education system that is accessible for most of our children. In East Africa this is not the case, particularly for young girls. So They Can (https://www.sotheycan.org/who-we-are) has a mission to eradicate intergenerational poverty in Kenya and Tanzania, which is primarily attributed to lack of educational opportunities, the sale of young girls as child brides and the prevalence of abusive practices such as genital cutting.
Closer to home we have a very stubborn issue in our society with the prevalence of domestic and family violence. As you know, the victims of this scourge are predominantly women and children. At the most basic level this prevents beautiful young children from having the things we take for granted for our own children - a safe place to live, a healthy diet, warm clothes, and the ability to get to school. BaptistCare HopeStreet (https://baptistcare.org.au/domestic-violence) operates across Australia, supporting women and children to help them rebuild their lives and to have new choices that are safe and secure.
