Day 1
The Sydney 2026 Chain Reaction Challenge began with a moment of quiet reflection and deep respect with the riders and support crew attending the Dawn Service, paying tribute to the ANZACs and acknowledging the values of courage, sacrifice and resilience that continue to shape our nation. It provided everyone with a perspective of how communities come together to support those that need our help — and a fitting way to begin a challenge built on endurance, commitment and service.
As first light settled in, the peloton rolled out and made its way along Anzac Highway, a symbolic and emotional start before transitioning into the rhythm of Day 1. Officially titled “Adelaide (Flat & Hills)”, the opening stage of the seven‑day challenge set the tone for the journey ahead.
The Day 1 route took riders through some of Adelaide’s most familiar and scenic stretches, including Port Adelaide, Henley Beach and Glenelg, offering coastal views and fast‑moving kilometres before the challenge began to bite. The Norton Road climb provided an early test of legs and resolve — a reminder that while excitement was high, the road ahead would demand real effort and teamwork. From there, riders regrouped and pushed back toward Adelaide, completing a first day that was both demanding and deeply rewarding.
There was undeniable energy within the group. Months of preparation, training and fundraising led to this moment, and with Day 1 came a mix of excitement and nerves. For many riders, those nerves quickly settled once the wheels were turning and the shared purpose became clear. By the end of the stage, there was a collective sense of achievement — Day 1 was done, the challenge was real, and confidence grew as the team looked ahead to Day 2.

Beyond the kilometres, the purpose of Chain Reaction remains front and centre.
The Sydney 2026 Challenge is raising vital funds to support So They Can, which delivers long‑term education and community development programs in Kenya and Tanzania, and BaptistCare HopeStreet, which provides critical support to disadvantaged children and families across NSW and the ACT.
Every climb, every kilometre and every early morning start contributes directly to creating safer, healthier and more hopeful futures for children in need.

Day 1 was a meaningful beginning — grounded in remembrance, strengthened by challenge, and driven by purpose. With momentum building and the peloton united, the team now turns its focus to what Day 2 will bring.
