Pedal Power – 50 Brisbane Business Leaders Cycle for Charity

07 Aug 2017

This October, fifty women will be taking on the Chain Reaction Challenge Women’s 300, a 3 day 300km cycling challenge for senior female business leaders to raise funds for Queensland children’s charities.

The event will take riders from Byron Bay to Brisbane on a professionally designed and fully supported course for that ‘Pro-Tour’ experience. This is the fifth women’s only event delivered by Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation and the first for the Queensland women’s business community.

Patrice Sherrie (pictured far left) of Bentleys Chartered Accountants in Brisbane chairs the event organising committee. She came on board the women’s event to help provide a unique and empowering networking opportunity for the female cyclists in Brisbane’s business community.

“I wanted to be sure that the influential female executives I knew had an avenue not only to share their love of cycling and support for charitable organisations, but to encourage other women to network in an environment that was fun rather than intimidating.”

All of Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation’s rides raise funds for charities selected by the organising committees in each city. The Women’s 300 Committee has selected Queensland’s only children’s hospice, Hummingbird House, as their major charity partner. Hummingbird House provides respite and end-of-life care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Other minor charity partners benefiting from the funds raised this year include Youth Advocacy Centre, an organisation that provides free legal services, youth support and family support assistance and services to young people under 18 years of age. The ride aims to fundraise in excess of $250,000 for these very worthy causes.

“It’s a challenge,” Sherrie admits, “but we need to have a big goal and it’s our hope that each year we will attract more corporate sponsors who see the benefits of supporting women’s events such as this while making a real impact in this community.”

Fundraising for this event is well under-way. If you would like to know more or donate to event, please visit the W300 event page.
