Inside the Peloton Day Three

15 Mar 2022
Wazza’s weather was on point, some cloud cover to keep a bit of heat in overnight saw us roll out of Launceston at a mild 140C. I’ve heard locals would even consider that tropical. After we cleared the last of the red lights, the peloton was riding along nicely just as the sun was cresting the hills and warming our backs.

The legs now warm, the first little pinch came around the 12km mark, about 6km of gentle climbing with a reward of lovely long flowing descent before we got some free play and the familiar orange helmet rockets up the road.  A few chased and a group formed, from different teams but that didn’t matter. All working well together, pulling turns….. so good in fact, cups were issued on Strava – it’s all for the kids they said!

Great banter and conversation after the climb took our minds off the cool breeze. Hydrated and fuelled off we went, another great descent (that’s why we ride up – yeah), a few country back lanes that had tricked you into thinking you were riding in Europe. And like that a Devonport Airport sign flashes up – jeeps that went quick!

It was always going to be hard to follow up yesterday's ride: the view, the sunshine, the route. Yet on a grayish day, not too hot - not too cold, a route to boot, there were some happy riders. The wind was our friend today, pushing us along for an early lunch. And lunch didn’t disappoint.

With part one complete, it was off to the velodrome – organised chaos I think it was called at one point. As good as Wazza is, he just couldn’t predict the Tasmanian drizzle would form only over the velodrome. But that didn’t stop some – a brave few racking up the 20 plus laps.

The rain cleared and it was photo time. Tight formation, straight lines, meticulously side by side, great team riding (from most) – will see some pro style photos from this.

The Chain Reaction crew kept us safe all the way on a great transition stage ahead of tomorrow's monster – remember it’s a challenge and it’s for the kids. How lucky are we!
