Day 4 of the 2025 Chain Reaction Challenge saw riders take on a challenging Ballina Loop - a demanding 151km circuit with over 2000 metres of climbing through Northern NSW’s stunning hinterland. With rolling hills, exposed sections, and warm autumn conditions, it was a true test of endurance, teamwork, and resolve.
The day began with a peaceful coastal rollout from Ballina to Byron Bay under beautiful morning light. Spirits were high despite the toll of three consecutive days in the saddle. Conditions at Byron Bay were picturesque and we quickly took the opportunity for a media blast!

The route then quickly turned inland, where undulating terrain and a series of short, sharp climbs kept the peloton working hard. Early into the ride, a steady ascent through lush hinterland challenged the group physically but also delivered spectacular views - a reminder of the beauty surrounding the suffering.

By the 107km mark, riders had earned a well-deserved break, refuelling with local snacks and plenty of hydration at a small but quaint Community Hall. It was here the camaraderie shone: teams regrouped, jokes were shared, and legs were stretched in preparation for the 38km dash home.

The return to Ballina featured stretches of exposed road where wind was a minor factor. Strong group riding was critical, but even more so was the support crew cars guiding us through Ballina’s late afternoon traffic.
Tired but uplifted, the peloton rolled back into Ballina with smiles, relief, and pride. Day 4 pushed limits but also strengthened bonds, reminding everyone why they ride - to make a meaningful impact in the lives of children in need.
With four days down and three to go, the team looks ahead to tomorrow’s challenge - stronger, more connected, and more determined than ever.
