Inside the Melbourne Peloton Day 6

19 May 2022
After a huge 182km day we were reminded last night of why we do this crazy ride. The Starlight charity presentation didn’t leave a dry eye, and the challenges that the families and children face far outweigh the sore backside and legs. With only two days left, every single rider was starting to come to the realisation that we had all well and truly broken the back of the long kilometres that this amazing challenge had served up so far. After chatting to several of the riders around the breakfast table, many were reflecting on everything that we’d enjoyed and endured so far, and what still lied ahead for our last two days.

This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride along one of the most picturesque places in the world. The ride into the Daintree is amazing. The hills are killers, and the heat is intense, but everyone made it over them and enjoyed the beautiful finish at our hotel in Cape Tribulation.

Today everyone was back on the road at 6:45 sharp to take a quick roll down the road for some group photos at one of the most picturesque places on the planet - Myall Beach. This place can only be described as Australia’s ultimate postcard. So peaceful and serene…. Until we came along!

We all knew that yesterday’s tough climb was only 30kms ahead (compared to yesterday’s 150kms), and with a fairly flat track ahead for the remainder of the day, many riders were keen to take it on with far more energy this time around! We knew the prize view at the top was well worth the effort!

After gathering our breathe and taking in the views of the Daintree for the last time, we raced down the other side and jumped back on the Daintree Ferry, before riding towards Mossman once again for lunch, and then rolling into beautiful Port Douglas.

This is the most well-tuned, organised, professional charity ride we have ever seen. John, Tim and the sensational team do an outstanding job. The support crew help everyone push through the kilometres and its truly enjoyable (with plenty of riding pain). Our donation tally is up to almost 1.3million. It’s such an important cause and this is something we will remember for ever.
