2021 Sydney 7 Day Challenge

Help me support those doing it tough and through the work of Hope Street, to make their daily struggles that little bit easier.

Who are you in your professional life?

I am a Property Asset Manager with Baptist Care NSW/ACT. I help maintain our facilities so our residents and staff benefit from a facility that provides safe and loving care. Seeing smiles on the faces of our residents is what it is all about.

Who are you in your personal life?

I am a husband, father, musician, hiker and bike rider. I've always ridden a bike but it wasn't till about 8 years ago I decided my health needed to be a priority and riding has provided that. Cycling and Hiking has allowed my wife and I to see some amazing flora, fauna and scenery.

How/why are you involved in Chain Reaction?

I was introduced to Chain Reaction by the CEO of Baptist Care to help raise important funds for our Hope Street program.

BaptistCare Hope Street is committed to awareness and education that domestic violence is More than Skin Deep.

If you or someone you know is experiencing violence, there is help available now: call 1800 RESPECT on 1800 737 732 for confidential advice or support, 24/7. In an emergency, call the police on 000.

My Updates

Ticked over $6000 in sponsorship - A HUGE THANK YOU

With three days to go my sponsorship total has gone past $6,000 today (21st April 21) I was concerned my fundraising would be less than my goal of $5000. I would like to thank all those who have trusted me to ride the 1000kms raising funds for kids in need and especially BaptistCare HopeStreet. You all have given me a responsibility to do you and your sponsorship proud. Thank you again.
Bring ON Saturday

Last week begins Week beginning 19th April.

I have been taking it easy this last week. The truck from Chain reaction arrived and stayed at Macquarie Park. We are now receiving bikes and loading them into the truck for the journey to Coffs Harbour. I'll get a ride on the trainer Wednesday and an easy 100kms on Thursday. Then driving up to Port Macquarie to stay with family. Hope to get a small ride around Port on Friday. Then its Saturday. The challenge begins.
Thanks you everyone for your support and interest in the challenge. Please pray for safety as we all ride back to Sydney.

Week Beginning 12th April 2021

Saturday had our form finder ride through the north west outskirts of Sydney. 140kms with 2000m of climbing. I finally feel 100% in can do this. The other riders are looking very good. There seems to be a great gel amongst the group. Looking forward to the ride in leas than two weeks,

Week starting 6th April

Well we are in April and training saw nearly 1000km's for the month of March. I have lost 6kgs and i have been seeing improvements in my fitness each ride. We are nearly at the starting line for this years challenge and i feel i am ready. A BIG THANK YOU to all my sponsors. The HopeStreet team are so happy you are supporting them and myself in the crazy endeavour.

Week beginning 22nd March

The weekend saw rain and flooding in the Sydney Basin not seen since the 60's and 70's. The indoor trainer got a good workout. I am constantly under 80kgs now which helps with any climbing. I have nearly reach 700 kms so far in March. I hope to get close to 1000 for the month. Hope the sun comes out and dries everything out.

Week Starting 15th March 2021

Training continues - Weather was a lot better last week. I rode 222km's with a great ride to Bowral on Saturday. My weigh in yesterday showed i have lost 5.1kgs since December and i am finally under 80kgs - (79.6) Rain is predicted this week which means i am going to get wet again. Ah well. with over 450kms so far this month the KMS are building up nicely.

Week starting 8th March

Since last update i have increased my training and have included some long walks to burn of some of that lactic acid build up in those legs. I am stable around the 80.5kg mark. Feeling really strong now in my fitness. 725km's ridden in February and 264km's so far in March.

Slow rest week - 15th February 2021

Only 138km's this week. Will again build up this coming week. A couple of good long walks and some basketball down the park loosened up some sore joints. Feel good. Weight is still around 80.6kgs. Hopefully still would like to lose another 1 kg and get into the 79's. Here's hoping.

Week Beginning February 8th

  • 228kms - 13h12m 2,647m climbed
  • Got some good Km's done last week. Linked up with the Chain Reaction Squad with a ride out the West Head. Good week. My weight is now down to 80.7kgs. Trending well. Ready to build up.

Week Starting 1st February

Joined the Zwift community so i can get good bass training during the wetter days. The weather in the past week was ordinary. Only got 94 kms. With Zwift this increase now. Need the Km's under my belt. My daughter has agreed to carryout 45mins of weight and core strength training with me as my personal trainer. Looking forward to it.

Week Starting 25th January 2021

I got a 160km ride which included the M7 with our Chain Reaction Team - Hope Street Squad Followed up with an indoor trainer workout. over 200km's for the week The weather wasn't the best. Not looking good for the week coming. My Weight is still around 81.5kgs Feeling stronger each day.

Good Km's - Week starting 18th Jan 2021

It was a good week of riding last week. Rode 270km's for the week with a good 118km ride on Saturday. That's the biggest week since Oct 2019. Hope to do something similar this week - maybe more. Thanks to Pandora for joining me on some of those rides. Great to ride together.

Riding to work - Week starting 11th Jan 2021

I found a great way to get to and from work. This will allow some good extra KM's during the week. The route follows a few cycle paths through Meadowbank, West Ryde to Mac Park. Really safe and easy to ride.
My weight is now down to 82.4kgs - Pretty happy with that.
My bike fitness is improving noticeably. Building up nicely

Great weekend of riding as the weather finally clears

Got some great riding in on the weekend. The Sydney weather finally cleared up. The Royal National Park on Saturday was spectacular and really tested my current state of endurance. I am happy where my fitness is currently at and is building well.

Happy New Year - Training continues - Week beginning January 4th 2021

I have incorporated the kettlebell into the training regime (Thanks to Mathew my bike buddy neighbour) My weight has dropped to 82.9kg (Slowly but surely)
Matt and I rode 102km's last Saturday with some good climbing. Really showed where my base fitness currently stands. Weather has been awful for riding but looks good for this weekend. Should get two good rides in Saturday and Sunday. Previous weekend hiked in Wentworth Falls with my Wife (Pandora) lots of climbing and good distance. Most of the rain stayed away.

Training Begins - Week beginning December 14th 2020

So the journey begins. Covid and a hand injury has dented the fitness. Lots of walking/hiking but limited bike rides. Weight rose from 79kgs to 84.2. A week into training and its dropped to 83.2. (Have to keep that going over Christmas)
No more snacks and lots more fruit and veg.
229.1kms so far in December and the legs feel it.

Thank You To My Donors
