Help me support kids in need
Chain Reaction is the Ultimate Corporate Bike Challenge that raises money for sick children by challenging senior executives who have a passion for cycling and an awareness of their corporate social responsibilities, to ride a 1,000 plus kilometre course in 7 days.
The 2020 NSW Ride to Tasmania is my 6th Chain Reaction ride supporting kids in need. I did my first ride in 2014 which was also in Tasmania. For that ride I did it for the personal challenge and I considered the fundraising as a cost of entry. Something I had to do.
After getting involved with the Charity and seeing the great work our Charity Partners do it has become all about the fundraising. There is so much that needs to be done and so many great dedicated people eager to do it. We only have to raise the money to make it happen.
I have significant personal connections to two of this year's charities.
The Starlight Foundation whose mission is "to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and their families" through in hospital and out of hospital programs and research and program development. My daughter Juliette was diagnosed with Leukaemia aged 3 and spent two years in and out of hospital and benefitted greatly from Starlight's laughter and happiness "treatment".
This year I am also riding for the Isaac McInnes Foundation. Isaac was the son of Gary McInnes, a fellow EY Partner and friend, who was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer Anaplastic Astrocytoma III. Gary and his wife Geraldine established a fund to support research into childhood brain cancers in the hope the research might save Isaac's life. Unfortunately Isaac died in November 2018 however Gary and Geraldine have continued to raise funds in Isaac's memory in the hope that the reserach will save young lives in the future.
