Big Day Out on the bike
Yesterday's training ride plan filled me with a bit of fear - how was I going to go on my old bike for 150km+ ?
The trip to San Francisco for our Pure Storage sales conference provided the opportunity to ride in California and meet some remote teammates for a ride, but was it all going to be a big disaster? Was my bike about to be destroyed from the flights?
In short, no. But a freak drive-train failure on the last day has caused my frame fatal damage, so if I want to keep training, I needed to get the old bike tuned up and get pedalling!
Luckily, all is well with it, and it served me well. I wasn't expecting to be able to get through 175km in such good conditioning. It just goes to show how vital it is to do the training leading up to the big event.
So, apart from a bit of sunburn on the arms, I'm getting more confident that I'll do well in Tassie and have more opportunities to let people know more about Chain Reaction and the Challenge, and VSK.
Keep on pedalling!
Riding for a cause worth talking about (as a parent)...
Yes, I do love to ride my bike. But it's different when you are riding to publicise a worthy cause and help others.
You might think that you've donated money to the bushfires, so your good deeds are done for the year. Congratulations to you, but our jobs are not done yet!
I am riding 1000 kilometres in 7 days from Hobart to Devonport in March to raise funds for kids in need.
Funds raised from this event will support major charity partners Starlight Children's Foundation and Very Special Kids.
When I learned about the work that VSK does in the local community, I realised that it was something that I wanted to bring to peoples' attention - it's a longer term cause that I want to do more for.
Very Special Kids cares for children with life-threatening conditions by providing a children’s hospice and professional support services to families. Chain Reaction funds will be spent directly on undertaking a major upgrade the 20-year-old hospice, bringing it in-line with modern medical support so they can support more kids and families, including teens and adolescents who are living beyond expectations - have a look here for more info: https://vimeo.com/378706439
Please support my efforts on the bike with a donation and be part of changing the lives of kids in need!
