Chain Reaction Bushfire Response
Chain Reaction Challenge Foundation raises money to support sick kids, children in need and their families through corporate cycling events. We have been proud to do that since 2007 and through our charity partners have helped many face and overcome illness or significant personal challenges. But we never really imagined that there might come a time when we might need to think about kids and their families and friends losing homes and livelihoods in the very places we have passed through on our rides over the last 13 years.
During this bushfire crisis, many of our major charity partners are providing care and support for kids who are being affected by smoke inhalation, those that have been displaced and some in need of medical care.
Whilst our charity cannot directly support bushfire relief efforts, we want to stand alongside our charity partners, sponsors and supporters who have already committed people, time and money to rebuilding lives during this difficult time. Like so many others, this Foundation will ultimately find ways to help. For now though, it’s important for us to reflect and recognise the efforts of so many and the generosity and spontaneity of the Australian community responding to the disaster.
Our Foundation is grateful to all those communities impacted by the fires who so readily accommodated us during our events. We extend our sympathy and express our sadness for losses suffered and with the promise that we WILL return again.
Why I am raising funds for Very Special Kids and Starlight Foundation
The start of 2020 has been challenging for many, particularly those affected by ongoing bush fires crisis. Communities, families, wildlife, and nature have been profoundly impacted by these events.
Yes, riding my bike is fun, and the 1,000km will be challenging, both mentally and physically, but it will be only for one week. The charities that we do this for however have ongoing needs and I am seeking to make a contribution by supporting Very Special Kids and the Starlight Foundation whose work is ongoing, even during these tragic events.
I am fortuante and thankful to have a healthy family and being able to contribute in this small way. I have been training hard, sacrificing sleep and family time to train, and I hope that you can support us by generously donating to these wonderful organisations by supporting my efforts for Chain-Reaction.
Help me support kids in need
I am riding 1000 kilometres in 7 days from Hobart to Devonport in March to raise funds for kids in need.
Starlight Children’s Foundation has been a Chain Reaction supported charity since the ride’s foundation in 2007. Funds from Chain Reaction Challenge help SCF to operate the Starlight Express Room 7 days a week at the Monash Children’s Hospital. The Starlight Express Room is the place where kids can forget about being sick in hospital and just be kids. No doctors. No treatments. Just play.
Very Special Kids cares for children with life-threatening conditions by providing a children’s hospice and professional support services to families. Chain Reaction funds will be spent directly on undertaking a major upgrade the 20-year-old hospice, bringing it in-line with modern medical support so they can support more kids and families, including teens and adolescents who are living beyond expectations.
Please support my efforts on the bike with a donation and be part of changing the lives of kids in need!
