Georgie makes a wheelie big impact
Georgina has committed to taking on Chain Reaction’s 2019 Women’s 300, where she will ride 300 kilometres over three days.
An avid cyclist from a young age, Georgina has a keen interest in the sport. She represented her home country of New Zealand as a junior rider from 2009 to 2012, has competed in many international road cycling tours and two Junior World Track Championships, before retiring from competitive cycling as a senior New Zealand representative in 2013.
These days, Georgina continues cycling for fitness and fun, and cycling to work most days remains an important part of keeping connected to her roots.
As well as her keen interest in cycling, Georgina has a personal connection to the Mater Little Miracles cause. Georgina knows first-hand the importance of the services and support provided by NCCU from both patient and staff angles, and is riding to raise much-needed funds for seriously ill and preterm babies at Mater.
“My own connection to NCCU inspired me to dedicate my ride to Mater Little Miracles, and it means so much knowing that every dollar goes to help families and babies have the best possible start to life,” said Georgina. “I’d be thrilled if I could achieve my fundraising goal of $10 000, and I hope other Mater People are willing to get behind this worthy cause.”
Georgina is extremely excited to ride with purpose, and to connect people with Mater Little Miracles. “I want to show them just what the program achieves for thousands of families each year,” said Georgina.
Donations raised for Mater Foundation through the 2019 Chain Reaction W300 will help fund an in-hospital shuttle which will safely and easily transport critically ill babies to theatre, significantly reducing the risk of serious clinical problems posed by the transit process.
I have challenged myself to cycle over 300 kilometers in 3 days from Brisbane to the Sunshine Coast in October as part of the 2018 Chain Reaction Women's 300.
I have a goal of raising well over $3,000 to help purchase a valuable piece of equipment that helps care for pre-term babies. This is where I need your help.
A baby born without compleclations will be handed to the mother immediately after birth where they get to spend those precious first moments together.
Sadly at the moment this isnt the case for pre term babies who need medical intervention. Immediately after birth these little fighters are taken away from their mothers and fathers, directly to resuscitation and then only once stable are transferred into the NCCU to be close to family again.
Its hearbreaking to imagine how it would feel to miss out on that chance of instant physical connection with her baby.
Partners are also left to choose between staying close to mum or to follow their baby to the NCCU.
This is where the Giraffe warmer we're fundraising for proves to be invaluable. These incredible machines allow intensive care to come to the delivery suite and baby can be resuscitated next to the mum, all medical intervention administered all while baby stays near mum.
With your donation you will support a mum to be able to kiss, to cuddle and to hold their baby.
You can help babies like Baby Jack..
You can make a tax-deductible donation to my page https://www.chain-reaction.org.au/fundraisers/georginawilson
Thank you so much for helping me reach my goal and making a difference to the health of mums and their babies in your community.
