Starlight disrupts the relentless cycle of pain and trauma to let sick kids be kids
Chain Reaction is the Ultimate Corporate Bike Challenge that raises money for sick children by challenging senior executives who have a passion for cycling and an awareness of their corporate social responsibilities, to ride a 1,000 plus kilometre course in 7 days.
Despite this, I am not a Senior Executive and my passion for cycling is a new one. It will, however, be the ultimate challenge for me. I have never faced a physical undertaking of this nature or scale, and I have an unfortunate portfolio of stationary falls to my name.
I am taking part in this event to raise money for the Starlight Children's Foundation and I'm very proud to be supporting such a worthy cause. Starlight provides laughter and distraction for seriously ill and hospitalised children, and their families.
When a child is happy they are better able to cope with the stress and pain of illness. So starlight not only assists in providing fun, it can also lead to improved longterm health outcomes and provide important support to distressed siblings of a sick child.
To learn more about Starlight, I encourage you to watch Ava's story here: https://starlight.org.au/what-we-do/our-stories/kids-teens/ava
In the video, Ava's Mum, Leanne says "It's wonderful the impact Starlight has on Ava's wellbeing. The Captain Starlights have brightened even Ava's darkest days. They in turn have put smiles on our faces, seeing our little girl light up when we thought it was impossible."
I ask that you donate anything you can afford. I have some matching offers for fundraising - so anything you give really will make a difference!
