Help me support kids in need

I am very pleased, and very proud, to be joining the 2023 Chain Reaction ride - covering 1000km+ distance and 12,000m+ vertical climbing in 7 days - to raise money for some incredibly worthwhile causes. The Charity partners this year are Hope Street and So They Can.

Hope Street is a trusted place for some of NSW’s most vulnerable communities. It has been a place of hope for over 45 years providing help for families overcoming relationship breakdown, domestic violence, long-term unemployment, homelessness, and mental health or addiction issues. Services offered by Hope Street include:

  • Supported accommodation for women and children who are escaping domestic violence (Hope Street also assist with finding schools for children, and training or employment for mothers);

  • Food support through sit-down meals, crisis food packs, and low-cost groceries;

  • Parenting support, early-intervention initiatives for children who have experienced violence, and Counselling;

  • Street-based outreach; and

  • No-interest loans.

So they Can works in Kenya and Tanzania providing quality education to children living in poverty. With a focus on childs’ rights and wellbeing, So They Can's partnership with Chain Reaction will reinforce the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child, helping to improve the overall health and access to basic human rights such as education, food and clean water, as well as bringing an end to Female Genital Cutting and child marriage for many more girls in East Pokot, Kenya.

I hope to find my cycling legs in the next couple of weeks (I misplaced them somewhere in the middle of last year) and will cling to some blissful ignorance of what the ride might actually entail. I suspect, in the words of Miley Cyrus, it’s “always gonna be an uphill battle”. I think this outing might prove very character building.

I would be very grateful for your well-wishes and any support you are able to provide to So They Can and Hope Street. The costs of my participation have been covered by a personal contribution so any donation made by you will go directly to these charities.

Thank you!

That's a tough way to get to see Enzed, but then again, running 65kms was a tough way to see the Red Centre! No surprises here. Let's hope you can avoid the rabies, septicemia and any other exotic diseases on this trip. Thanks for having the courage to make this commitment. I'm sure you'll love it (some of the time)!
