Who participates on the ride?

Riders usually tend to be senior executives and include Managing Directors, CEO's, Partners and Directors of their respective organisations. Historically riders have come from the property, banking and finance and funds management industry and as such, the event offers a great networking opportunity for our industry leaders and an environment for client and staff engagement.

Riders are selected on their fundraising ability, their ability to ride 1,000 kilometres in 6-7 days and equally as importantly their ability to integrate within the group.

Where does the money go?

Money raised by Chain Reaction is used to support other registered children's (0 to 18 years) charities. Before the start of each ride, two major charity partners are selected to be the recipients of the majority of funds raised.

Major charity partners that Chain Reaction has supported in the past include: the Starlight Children's Foundation,  Very Special Kids, Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, the Monash Children's Hospital, Brisbane's Royal Children's Hospital, the Cerebral Palsy Education Centre, the Alannah and Madeline Foundation and Ambulance Victoria. In addition to supporting two major charity partners each ride, Chain Reaction also make a number of smaller donations to other children's charities.

Up to 10% of money raised may also be invested by the Foundation to create an income stream to cover its fixed costs.

How is the money raised?

Each Chain Reaction 1,000 kilometre ride usually consists of between 36 - 42 riders who raise funds through a combination of corporate and personal fund raising with riders being organised into teams of six. Each team has a main sponsor, whose corporate logo is prominent on their team jersey. That team then uses their own contacts and networks to raise additional funds by on-selling various levels of sponsorship on their jersey (ie. smaller logos on shoulders, etc.). This expands the network and also leads to friendly competition between the major sponsors.

In addition to the team jerseys, sponsored competition jerseys similar to those awarded in the Tour de France, are awarded on a daily basis. These jerseys are sponsored by corporate teams who want to support Chain Reaction and benefit from the networking opportunities that Chain Reaction brings.

Each rider, in addition to making a $2,500 - $3,000 upfront donation to Chain Reaction, is expected to use their personal networks to raise a minimum of $5,000 in personal donations.

Sponsorship and rider opportunities are available for both rides by contacting John Ward on 03 8623 3459 or by emailing us via the contact form.
