Emma Carney

Emma Carney raced her first triathlon in 1993, competed in her first International Triathlon at the World Championships in 1994 and won that race by the largest margin in the history of the sport. During 1995, 1996 and 1997 Emma won all but three races and took Triathlon to a new level of speed, power and athleticism, coupled with feminine grace. Emma became a 2 time World Champion, 4 time world number 1 & 9 time Australian Champion.

Prior to being a triathlete, Emma had a background in athletics and was one of Australia's leading young Athletes. Emma has represented Australia in two World Cross Country Championships and Road Relay Teams.

Emma has been a Chain Reaction Ambassador since its first ride in 2007 and also is coach of Chain Reaction

Simon Gerrans

Simon Gerrans is one of the classiest riders in the professional peloton and in 2009 he joined an exclusive cycling club by becoming the first Australian to win stages in all three Grand Tours (France, Italy and Spain). This included a Stage 15 victory in the 2008 Tour de France where he crossed the finish line in first place after the climb from Embrun to Prato Nevoso.

2012 has been Simons most successful year yet, securing the national jersey for the debut season of Australias first ever WorldTour team GreenEDGE, taking out the first WorldTour race of the season, the Tour Down Under and winning one of the five monuments of international cycling, the Milan-San Remo.

Originally from Jamieson, Victoria, the 31-year-old now bases himself in Monaco and travels around the world for training and road racing competitions.

Simon has enjoyed success from a young age by winning events in junior competitions and racing as a member of the AIS and the National Under 23 team. It was in 2001 that he made it to the podium, finishing 3rd in the Tour Down Under under 23 General Classification. Simon succeeded in 2006, when he claimed victory in the General Classification in the Tour Down Under as a member of the French professional cycling team Ag2r Prevoyance. He also represented Australia in the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

More recently, Simon has posted impressive podium finishes in stages of the biggest international cycling events around the world. Some of his best results include:

Duncan Armstrong

Raised in the Central Queensland town of Rockhampton, Duncan Armstrong rose to national and international fame at the Seoul Olympics in 1988 when he broke the world record to win the Gold medal in the 200 metres freestyle.

Duncan formed a winning relationship with madcap coach Laurie Lawrence which spanned 10 years, collecting Gold at the Commonwealth Games, Pan Pacific championships and numerous national and international competitions.

During his stellar career Duncan also won a host of honours out of the water, including Young Australian of the Year and an Order of Australia medal.

After representing Australia at two Olympic Games, Duncan retired from the pool in 1993 to pursue a career in media and corporate coaching.

Duncan faces each year with his usual energetic youthfulness, and promises to deliver on every facet of his career. Media commitments will keep him well and truly in the limelight, while he continues to develop great corporate and community programs with his long-term business partners Westpac Banking Corporation and Telstra.

Phil Liggett

Patron of the 2012 NSW Chain Reaction Ride

Phil Liggett is simply the best-known figure in world cycling. His skill as a commentator, his tireless promotion of the sport for more than 40 years and his expert knowledge has earned him the respect of generations of professional riders and cycling fans around the world.

His unique commentary style mixes years of hard-won experience and knowledge with colourful phrases and anecdotes that border on the literary. It is this trait that has won Phil numerous awards and won for him an audience and recognition that extends well beyond the cycling community.

Phil is a former amateur cyclist and received a professional contract in 1967; instead of turning professional, he saw a future in sports journalism after he wrote a few articles in cycling magazines about races in which he participated.

He has been a constant feature of most major international cycling events over the years and is a generous supporter of many charitable and community events. In 2005 Phil was awarded an MBE for his voluntary and professional service to cycling.
